We the people holsters review

Choosing a quality holster for your handgun is kind of a big deal. Finding a high-quality holster allows you to carry your firearm confidently and comfortably, so you can focus on keeping yourself and the people you love safe. Because your weapon will spend most of its life sitting inside its holster, you want to make sure you find it a safe and comfortable ride.

While there are scores of holsters on the market today, they are not all created equal. Although there are plenty of top-notch holsters, there are also plenty of versions that are cheap and poorly made. Sorting through the options and separating the wheat from the chaff is no easy task, especially if you aren’t sure what to look for.

There are three very important things to consider when searching for a new EDC or concealed carry holster:

  • Price
  • Comfort
  • Dependability

We the People Holsters meets all three. In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at what this relatively new holster company has to offer everyday carriers like you and me.

Currently, WTP Holsters offer a great deal only for our readers as below:

Who Are We The People Holsters?

We The People Holsters is an American-owned company that specializes in quality, hand-crafted Kydex holsters. According to the company’s website, We The People Holsters is made up of “gun nerds, holster nerds, Kydex nerds, and most of all fun-loving Americans.”

The company was launched because they “love the CCW community and think we can do some good along the way.”

We the People Holsters offers a  rock-solid, one-year, no-questions-asked return policy and stands behind their customer service.

We The People crafts sturdy Kydex holsters without a bunch of bells and whistles, but their products manage to get the job done without them. The company features an extensive line of products for every popular handgun model (and some obscure, not-so-popular models, too). They also accept custom design requests.

The Beauty of Kydex

Kydex has mostly replaced traditional leather in the world of modern holsters. This composite thermoplastic is a relatively new material, but it works impressively well as a holster material.

It comes in sheets that can be heated and applied to a mold of a specific handgun model. The heated material fits neatly into the weapon’s unique nooks and crannies. Once the Kydex cools, it retains the shape of the mold but regains the material’s original rigidity and durability. The result is a customized fit, secure retention, and serious protection for your firearm’s finish and working parts.

Benefits of Kydex include:

  • Requires practically zero maintenance.
  • Cleans easily with soap and water.
  • Maintains its shape even with rough use.
  • It is available in a wide range of colors and patterns.
  • More affordable than leather.
  • Its rigidity prevents the holster from collapsing at the mouth when the weapon is drawn. This allows for easy re-holstering without looking down at your holster.
  • The material is waterproof and unaffected by sweat.

What We The People Has To Offer?

We managed to get our hands on a few of this company’s products to give them a real-life test drive. Here is the low-down on their most popular offerings.

American-Made OWB Paddle Holster

The company’s OWB (outside the waistband) model is surprisingly comfortable and discreet for a paddle holster. It is hand-molded from robust .080-inch Kydex. The material is thick and rigid, yet only adds a few ounces in weight, which is particularly handy if you aren’t toting a lightweight micro pistol.

Because this is a paddle holster, it is designed to work with or without a belt. Since my wardrobe choices don’t always coordinate with a thick, tactical gun belt, this is an attractive feature for me. However, this holster still works best with a belt. Elastic waistbands and paddle holsters are generally a bad idea, and it’s no different with this one.

A good holster not only supports the weight of your loaded weapon but also distributes the weight evenly to improve comfort. The paddle achieves this without being bulky or cumbersome inside the waistband of your favorite slacks, jeans, or skirt.

The Kydex can be slightly uncomfortable if it rests directly against your skin, but this is easily remedied with some strategic undergarments. High-riding underwear, a t-shirt, or camisole work well. Simply position the paddle between your underclothes and your pants and you’re good to go.

Having a piece of what is essentially hard plastic shoved inside your pants doesn’t get high ratings in the comfort department, but this is true of any Kydex holster.

This isn’t a holster that works well for appendix carry, especially if you spend a lot of time sitting. Although I could wear it on my strong side in the 3 o’clock or 4 o’clock position and almost forgot it was there.

The paddle holster has six angled notches that provide maximum adjustability in cant and ride height. Adjustment is incredibly easy. You simply unscrew the paddle, move it to the desired position, and screw everything back into place. You can completely customize the fit by moving the paddle up, down, or changing the angle to achieve a smooth, unhindered draw.

Like the OWB Paddle holster, We The People’s IWB (inside the waistband) holster is hand-molded from durable .080-inch Kydex. Designed to be worn inside the waistband with a 1.5-inch belt and an untucked shirt, this option is perfect for CCW holders.

Any time you stuff a holster inside your pants, it can put uncomfortable pressure on soft body parts. While this isn’t the most comfortable IWB holster I’ve used, it isn’t anywhere near the worst. Of course, carrying a mid-size handgun like the Glock 19 probably isn’t doing me any favors in the comfort department.

Alice with the WTP IWB Holster

We The People added a protective sweat guard to their IWB holster. The sweat guard provides an extra layer of protection for your sidearm from sweat and corrosive body oils. This is a nice feature if you do need to wear your holster directly against your body.

The company has attempted to address the comfort issue by rounding edges, keeping the profile low, and the design lightweight. Like with the paddle holster, pairing this IWB with an undershirt increases comfort by leaps and bounds.

We The People’s IWB actually works surprisingly well for appendix carry. It also works for strong side, behind the hip, and cross carry if those are more your speed. The holster features easily adjustable cant and ride height to accommodate any carry draw.

Since the holster doesn’t exactly pull the weapon into my body, I had some issues with printing (Again, I’m carrying a Glock 19). This can be overcome with some mindful wardrobe choices and the company’s Concealment Claw Adapter. This holster attachment is engineered to keep your firearm flat against your body to avoid printing, even under thin or tight-fitting fabrics, allowing more discreet carry. You can easily adjust the angles on We The People’s claw, so you adapt the device to any carry position.

Adjustable Retention

We The People Holsters

One of the most important features of any holster is its retention. A good holster needs to securely and reliably hold onto your firearm, even if you need to exert yourself physically.

If a holster doesn’t grip your handgun securely, it isn’t safe to use. Obviously, your holster needs to have enough retention to keep your sidearm from bouncing around on your waist as you go about your day. It also needs to prevent your handgun from falling out and bouncing around on the ground. While the average CCW holder isn’t turning summersaults during the workday, your holster should still hold securely to the gun and stay put on your person if you need to jog, jump, or duck down when danger arises.

The downside to retention is that it can hold your gun too tightly when you need to remove it from the holster. If it has too much retention it could slow down your response time when confronted with a deadly threat.

Any holster worth its salt is designed to strike a balance between security and availability.

Every We The People holster features adjustable retention. That means you can adjust the retention (by simply turning a screw) to ensure your firearm stays where it is until you need it. And when you need it, you won’t have to struggle to get it into the fight.

Colors and Patterns

We The People offers both their IWB and OWB holster in a wide array of colors and designs. Aside from traditional black, carriers can choose holsters with pink camo, classic RealTree, thin blue line, Molon Labe, American flag, and Spartan designs. Printed holsters feature the same rugged durability and security as every We The People holster.

We The People Apparel

In addition to quality holsters, We The People also has a line of patriotic apparel. Their men’s and women’s shirts and hoodies are made in the USA using 100% ring-spun cotton. This is soft, comfy clothing you’ll be proud to wear. T-shirt designs include the Betsy Ross flag, Gadsden flag, and various Pro Second Amendment concepts.

We The People also offers top-notch gun belts, trucker hats, tactical leggings, tumblers, phone cases, and coasters.

Final Thoughts

We The People Holsters are sturdy, adjustable, consistent, and reasonably priced. Although their holsters definitely aren’t luxury options, they are incredibly practical and well-suited for the average, everyday concealed carrier. If you don’t have a ton of cash to drop on a “fancy” expensive holster but aren’t willing to compromise on durability, We The People Holsters offer a ton of value for the money.

The company’s line of t-shirts and hoodies should pique the interest of Second Amendment supporters. Not only are the shirts, soft, comfortable, and well-made, they are a stylish way to promote freedom and values.
